  • wait if i had the motivation of makeing a mod then i would just edit instead of playing but i like to be sure the results will be good cause im a busy person and dont like to waste my time
  • This thread shall gain more attention now.
  • Method 1:
Navigate to the folder you want to create a document.
Right-click on a blank space and look in the context menu for the word "New" (there will be an arrow to the right of it).
Hover over this and a menu will pop up the side. Look for "Text Document" and click on it.
You will then be able to name the document, when you're finished press enter.
    e.

    Thank you Krash.

How fucking hard would have it been to tell him how to do that? Did you HAVE to make him look like a fool in the process? Copying his convo with you to post here... How did that prove you're correct about the definition of "scripting", other that completely discrediting him.
  • thankyou Alviss :)
  • Because, Alviss, creating a brand new text document is again, the basic of the basics of the basics. Yet, he can't even do that, but he's trying to learn computer programming? I'm afraid I must side strongly with Elec.
  • How fucking hard would have it been to tell him how to do that?
    Not hard.
Did you HAVE to make him look like a fool in the process?
I don't think Purple Duck needs any help in that regard.

That's not a question, because you answered yourself. The central purpose of this thread was to determine who was right. Purple Duck distorted/misremembered/fabricated a statement "by me". At issue was that specific conversation, where the non-existent statement allegedly originated, so it made a lot of sense to post it.

What did you want me to do? Lie? Say I said something that I didn't? Engage in socratic debate?

No? How about some facts? Before the conversation in question, Purple Duck asked me for some resources for programming in this game. He asserted that he had basic programming knowledge. I directed him to the last and best T2 scripting resource for this game: http://www.advancedmod.com/ for tutorials, and the massive search enabled forum of questions and answers over the years. This was as much a test of his ability to think as it was a legitimate response to his request.

If you're trying to create a script, chances are you'll find something similar, or with similar components, on the AdvMod forum. Obviously there is still some synthesis involved, which is where having a brain comes in.

Several days later, Purple Duck returns to me and asks me the question that starts the conversation that spawned this thread. Clearly his definition of "understanding the basics" was more along the lines of pushing a power button, and clicking the mouse instead of basic understanding of imperative procedural programming that he implied when he first asked me for help. That's what was at issue.

So, Emp, do you think I acted incorrectly? Do you think I should have told him how to make a file? How likely do you think the next question would be equally inane? How about the next 50 questions?

I don't know about you, but my time is really quite valuable. Would you rather I spend 2-3 minutes explaining these amazingly stupid details? For 50 questions, that could easily be hours of my time. Do you think I should spend it on someone who can't even be bothered to look things up himself, or do you think I should spend it working on something that will benefit the community, like Structural Infinity?

Purple Duck has demonstrated that he lacks the patience, will, and basic intellect required for computer programming. If you can't learn things on your own, a teacher holding your hand can only drag you so far. If you want to deal with that, Emp, by all means, have fun. When you get tired of catering to Duck's desire for instant gratification, you too will realize I am right.
  • Why spend time drafting long elaborate responses to defend yourself against someone who is clearly not worth your time?
  • Being right is worth time to most people. Thyth's not perfect, either.
  • No, but he can you fool you into thinking otherwise.

To linker, I believe Thyth likes to thoroughly prove himself right, with as few possible openings for arguments as possible to conserve his "valuable time".
  • I've had a taste of the stuff making maps in Warcraft III. I would start working on what's called "Triggers", which is basically scripting in my opinion. You have what's called GUI triggering, (Simple user-friendly scripting), and then you...
    Warcraft 3 ftw! :P
  • Are you saying i don't have basic intelagance?
    Thats just harsh dude.
  • You are getting there, you seem to be capitalizing and punctuating more now

A bit of spell checking and you would at least not look like you have no intelligence (this is right way to spell it btw)
