Tribal Era coming to a close

As we say goodbye to the original hosts, and usher in a new era of the continued survival of tribes 2...I feel its necessary to look back, and remember those that made the game what it was, what it continued to be, and what it is today. Because everyone put a lot of time and effort into it. Some a few months, and some over 7 years. Time that I feel must be recognized in the use of betterment and survival of one of the most, unarguably, best FPS' ever made.

So I will be hosting a Tribes 2 Server, running construction .69, On Katabatic (A Universal favorite), on Nov 5 (If the servers last that long..lol), at 5pm Pacific Time. We will have as many people there to bring this era to a close, and remember those who have left, and have stayed with us throughout the years, and those newer players that have come in the past couple years. I open invitations to any player, construction, Classic, shifter, etc to attend, as this affects us all.

We, of the construction community, will have a ceremonial "Last Deconstruction of the L.S.B.", the building block of our Mod. Undecided yet to who will have the honors, along with recognition of all key people, and contributors to the mod, and its ongoing efforts.

Representatives from other mods can do what you see best to bring a close of a 7 year gaming era.

Lets see a good turnout. If you cannot make it, reply to this thread. If you can, see you on the 5th. If the servers are down by then, we will host this ceremony on the opening of the new server.

  • And before people start making the "Its just a game, there's no need to have nerdy ceremonies to pat each others backs"

Well Yes, it is just a game, but its a game many people put countless hours of their own RL time into. To make it grow and expand to be what is is today.

So I personally felt it fitting to host a recognition ceremony in saying thanks to those that stuck it out over the 7 years of this games development, and making it what it is today for the newer players, and for the eventual newbloods that come in after the new server is up.

In short, we don't need negative comments, this is to show some sort of recognition to those that put in a lot of time to see this game come here.

3:28PM Eastern Standard Time, here thal authentication server list has thal closed for al once it was up, but it down fall today. :(
  • Its sad, but we can still keep in touch via the forums or the alternate master server, which you can download here: http://www.the-construct.net/forums/showthread.php?t=265
  • I won't be able to make it. :(
  • T2 is not dead. It's just undergoing a heart transplantation.

This has got to be the fucking BEST metaphor anyone could come with for the current state of affairs T2 is on.

(No, I'm not being ironic.. just overreacting)

    I love you...

I miss the old days. :(
  • T2... besides the game, what I loved was the peeps I connected with and a few you had to say goodbye too. One of the worst things about losing the original community servers was losing the browser pages containing memorials.

RIP Jadakizz, Mister13, Gigawa. There was another kid that just made it to college and a blood vessel ruptured, can't remember his name... a really good guy and skilled T2 player.
  • couldnt we just have a custom bases set up and have MASSIVE BLAST UP to celebrate? or, for those who like this idea, do both?
  • Man.. I miss back in the old days when everyone played Flatland Canyon on Quantium X. Then Flatland Desert came in, and CCM and Metallic. After that, Moocon and Electricutioner's Con Mod. Now, we basically have Krash's Metalic version and A/CCM. Barely anyone on today is someone that I recognize. We've lost a lot of important people. Celebrating these people and their effort is a brilliant idea.

It was scheduled tonight at 8pm Eastern time. Are we still going through with it by using the Alternate Master server, or will we postpone until the permanent solution is in place?

I miss the old days when everyone played the original construction mod and played on either Katabatic or Firestorm. No one cared about spam and everyone just played for fun. Good times.
  • Is it just me or does Syn's description of the 'old days' seem pretty innacurate? I guess it could've seemed different from the other side of the tracks, but by the time Riavan's maps came out we had already been playing for close to two years, and the X version of quantium didn't come out for quite a while after that. Not that most of the core community played on quantium servers at the time... too much bad blood from when quantium stole code from atomic.
At the time those maps were released (and I'm pretty sure they were only a week apart), my server was probably sporting the #Rawr32.net tag and running UltimateBuild. By the time Quantium X came out though, it had been running Metallic for quite a while.
  • It's possible he played construction a little later, as do most people. There isn't really a lot of people left who can call what me and you will call "the old days." For most, it's Quantium, for others, possibly CCM or Metallic. It's something different to everyone.
  • For me, it's when Discos and Car garages were the cool thing to make.

I can host Quantium X on Flatland Canyon.
  • I wish i was here for the space of 2003-2005.
Sounds like the golden age went on without me
  • Well boo, I suppose we can plan it on the Alternate server till the new one is up.

And for those that don't know, When the original mod was still being developed was the old times lol.

    *CMDR gets on soapbox*

The construction community was, at one time, vibrant and active, with sometimes as many as 20 servers with people in them. Katabatic, Firestorm, and Thin Ice, were the maps people used before Flatland. Remembering the development of everything from crates, to escape pods...decoration packs and trees. Some of the more prominent clans were E2K (Preliminary to =pirate), The construct (Original Dev Teams clan), LBC (I think thats the acronym) -CB- (My clan), -B- (Brak's Clan of followers) and more If I could remember 6-7 years ago lol.

Then a "Dark age" hit, where most of the community went on to bigger and better things. We had very few people at all playing, and those that were, were trying to revive as best as they could.

Now the community is growing back to a decent size. Newbloods that have started within the last couple years have grown to be some excellent builders. And the survival of the community is up to you all.

We have survived for many years, bringing new advancements, mods, and resources to the builders arsenal. Due to the community that decided to stay and continue the building of this Mod, we will advance and become our own entity, and continue to grow in numbers.

So, with that said, when server is ready, the new clan to construction, the "Phoenix Architects" will be formed. A testament to our continued survival, even after the game creators tried to pull the plug. Invitations are open to all players of the community.

Welcome to the new Era of construction friends, lets make it a good one.

  • You said we would host on the alt server, when is this taking place now?

    ~Syn~
  • Then a "Dark age" hit

    Well said. :p
  • i may have just started just after the golden age bad luck i guess. But for all the time i have been playing tribes 2 it has been my favorite game and the best gaming community i have been honored to be in. Not like alot of games so i too say let's have a great new era and make tribes 2 what it was back then. I can do my part by getting new players and getting the word out if we want new players to repopulate tribes 2 but i can't say it will ever be the same

this may be the end but the beginning has just started
    long live tribes2
  • into the void as one, marching on!

would be a good way to summarise all that has happened thus far XD btw, im spreading the word of Rt2 (reborn tribes 2) to the people of youtube in the hope that those who miss the game (or they have commented) get to come back many would say that this was the end, hell no, if anything, its the beginning, emerging from the void as one so to speak
