  • Ironically, you've by far been the less civil party throughout this whole thread - and most others you've posted in with me.
  • And both of you are bringing s*** to the forums we in the construction community as a whole don't care about, to our forum board. We play to build, Kill zombies, make great constructions, and enjoy each others company. Not to discuss lack of competition in Rebels, or whatever other server/Mod was mentioned.

Most of us came from Base/Classic servers, BONES/Shifter myself. I'm sure we have a few people that did come from the mods you mentioned. This is a FPS, but due to its nearly limitless bounds of modifying ability, we can make it into whatever style game we want. We have, and will continue to build on that.

T2 didn't die due to lack of competition, it died due to it not being supported by its parent company anymore. When they made the keys free, they ran out, so it limited the community as a whole. And as people left for other games, Real-life, or various other reasons, we couldn't replace with new players to keep numbers strong. Newbloods ARE what keep a community alive. It isn't the 10 vets that play hours a day, it's the new people building their skills in whatever mod they choose to like. When you cut that source, you have less incoming, and more outgoing, your numbers dwindle. When sierra decided it was low enough, they pulled the plug on the servers to use on other titles they may be supporting.

In short, We of the construction community will still push on, and continue to enjoy the game we best see fit. Wither it be CCM, or straight pure build. And due to members in our mods community, Tribes 2 will still push on.
  • Hear-hear! Well said Bob!

So basically you agree with me. You've mixed around some causes and effects, but this is still the gist of what I said.
No CD keys -> No new players.
No new players -> No new players building their skills.
No new players building their skills -> No new players in competition.
No new players in competition -> competition gets boring.
Competition gets boring -> Competition dies.
Competition is dead -> No reason for anyone new to come play a 8 year old game (this is probably where more arguments will occur, but there's no point because they will never end until I am proven right by the numbers... if even then).
No reason for anyone new to come play a 8 year old game -> No new players.

Now you're stuck in the cycle. This cycle is the definition of a game being dead. It always has been.

Yes, except the boring part. Construction is only limited to ones imagination. Hence why our community is still alive. Even if we have 5 people, we can still have fun with the mod. That's the beauty of it, we don't need a multitude of teams to have fun, and bring different styles to the board. Even if we keep our current numbers in our community as they are now, we will still continue to develop and have fun. Can you say the same?

That's all well and good, but it doesn't really pertain to what we were discussing. Five people having fun do not equal a living game.
  • Umm... Has anyone done a count on how many members of the-construct there are? I'm no math whiz but somehow I think there's more than 5. o_0
  • There are about 301 registered members(including me of course) ;)

Among those five people there's the guy working on a new master server so you can kill people you don't know with a spinfusor, so show a little respect for this community.
  • show a little respect for this community.

Kryand is obviously incapable of doing that.
  • I'm not a big stereotype person, so I don't judge a whole community based on one person in it. Besides, I never had a problem with the Construction community. You guys sort of existed independent of the T2 community, rather than actively contributing to its death like another community represented in this thread. And when I say independent, I absolutely mean it. Construction could have 10000 players and Tribes 2 would still be dead. Construction isn't Tribes 2 any more than Counter-Strike is Half-Life. I know some of you will take that as an insult for some strange reason, but that is not an insult or even a remotely negative statement. It's just a fact.

I don't see T2 as being dead, it's far from it.
The new, private master server will re-open T2, as in, reviving it.

So yeah, T2 Con Community = T2 being resurrected.

(Note: I'm not taking credit for anyone, I'm just saying the people working on that represent this fine community)
  • The new server will allow for the possibility of resurrection. In the end though, it will entirely be up to how many new players this brings in and how long long they stay. The "how long they stay" part is the general subject of what's been discussed here so far. It's possible, and probably likely, that the patch won't change anything. :\
  • T2 has been struggling and managing to stay alive even though it's a very outdated game, and that isn't because of the people, that is because of the game.

What makes me think that more people will come?, because the game is great.

and infact could compare to those "REALLY COOL" titles such as cod4 (the new cod 5 is out but ive not seen any fandboys yet...) halo 3 and rather alarmingly, crysis (it still runs on the same principles, and furthers them with the engine but with more hacking, and work arounds involved, its sheen is reduced to a pile of collect-some-weaponry-fry-some-koreans muck.)

the way i see it is it isnt just the competition (fuck you do need to relax now and again darn it) its the people
  • Anyone have any idea what Deathborn just said? Because I don't.
  • basicly, t2 is pretty much a godly game and is unbeatable... :P

    lol...
  • I have two words, Tribes2 Rapz!
