Any DotA players out there? If so, you'll love this. It's a standalone game from the creators of DotA and it's free to play. It was just released a couple weeks ago.
Gameplay is just like DotA but all the heroes and items are original.
If you're worried about balancing issues because it's so new, that is valid, and people have complained about its balance. In my experience with the game, it's pretty balanced though. I mean, there are some heroes that are consistently good, but they're not unstoppable.
Even if you never played DotA, this is a really good way to get into it - There are a lot of guides to help you and they made this game really accessible to people who have never played before. It's really fun and it's free, so there's no reason not to.

Man I don't even remember who I used to play in DotA it's been so long. A group of us used to go over to my friend Mike's after school just about every day to play DotA in my senior year of high school. I remember going through a Lifestealer phase, and a Venomancer phase - I mixed it up a lot though - doing 2-3 games a day 3-4 times a week, we made people change heroes when they got too good with them because it would piss us all off. I think we banned Stealth Assassin and Drow Ranger for this reason.

If you've got $30, and you like these kind of games, I'd definitely recommend this game.
Also, Dota 2 is in the works, so it would make sense to wait for that if you plan on paying for an exact DoTA game.
it's not my fault those assholes at meltdown 2 make you feel like a depressed misfit!
you would have came back anyway.....
I played in the beta of HoN and I must say I prefer League of Legends. HoN tried to stay true to DotA and carried a lot of the annoying traits from the WC3 engine along with it like unit selection. Deselecting your hero in a game that solely focuses around your hero is annoying. Also I dislike the denying aspect as it makes the learning curve needlessly steep and makes early game too passive. Lol has no denial system so the early game is all about zoning and harassment.
