Ban All Creepers Over Night

A couple of issues to be addressed on the 5/8 server:

Primary:
It's been an excessive problem trying to make repairs and continue construction with the constant spawning of creepers.
I believe at one time it was mentioned that creepers were disabled, so why are they still spawning?

Secondary:
Another issue regards to the rise of excessive lagging since an hour ago. A couple people believe it's because of the backups being made every 15 minutes, though the issue has been much more frequent than that.

  • I believe that we should keep zombies to special nights to give us prepared time to repair our things. Just make maybe one or two nights a week a survival night and the rest normal.
  • FF - I can completely neutralize the creeper explosions so they do no damage, that's no problem at all. Waiting to be able to log into this machine, on an air card right now, it's acting a bit slow.

    Regarding lag, looking into it right now.
  • Overviewer was being a CPU hog. I niced it up to 19 (let everything else take precedence) and locked it to one thread, so it can only eat up one of the available cores. Should be a lot better now.
  • Creepers are neutralized now.
  • Is it possible that the mobs are making some of the lag?
  • Pretty unlikely to be honest - they've been on for a few days and it wasn't problematic. It got a bit laggy when I kicked in Overviewer, and that was noticeable in the system load (averaging around 1.4 instead of 0.2 now) - but due to some scheduling tweaks and CPU utilization tweaks MC should keep chugging without issue. When diagnosing something like this I like to do one thing at a time, so let's test this out for a day or so and see how it goes, and depending on the outcome I'll tweak further, possibly disabling mobs, or whatever works. I'd like to leave them enabled since they now pose no threat to buildings and can be used for resources. :D

    Under 55 they work, over that they just hurt a bit... The only downside I can think of is abyss city. Thoughts?

    Just makes life down here more interesting.

    Spamming torches and turning your bows into machine guns is the way to go!

    Hopefully I can get the cart system done in a way that I can trust the public to travel down with and help with construction.
  • Fyi creepers are NOT neutral at the moment. None of the plugins to neutralize them do so with the update... People are working on that.
