A question for you Electrical engineers out there.

How does RF cable work? what i want to know is how does the whole thing work electronically without completing the circut with the tv provider. i mean there is one copper wire in the cable providing input, so where does the output go to? the only thing i can think up is that the tv/ cable box uses the negative from the power. plz answer this for me, this troubles me as being a "straight forward this is how electricity will always work" Want-to-be electrical egineer. :(

  • Coaxial cables are fun.
  • But can be dangerous some times, make sure to feed them right, otherwise they will get angry..

Or maybe I've seen too much Biff.

    Is a cable guy.

Coax doesn't use electricity, it uses Radio Frequency. The aluminum braiding under the black sheathing is the ground for the most part.

    It's layered like this:

    Sheathing - the black part.
    Braiding/Shielding - the aluminum part.
Dielectric core - the white part wrapped in foil.
    Conductor - the copper part.

The coax is always grounded at the house with a ground block before it reaches the first splitter or outlet.
