Halloween Showcase '07

It's getting around that time of year again. Sorta.
It's been a while since we've had any sort of proper event, so now would be a good time to start your scary, creepy or otherwise spooky projects for our fifth annual Halloween showcase. In the past, we've seen some pretty cool buildings. Everything from graveyards to pumpkins to haunted houses, mazes and the like.
Grab your crew and put together some cool ideas or put together your masterpiece on your own, then show it off to everyone we can get on.
The thing is, last year we didn't really have many participating, and we had no central place to organize it. Hopefully this time around we might be able to get somewhere close to the turnout we've had in the past. So spread the word and tell old players to get back on if you can!
So we've got about two months to put together our projects, this should give time for those of us who are a bit busy to work when they've got the time.

Of course I'll be roaming around taking pictures of everyone's buildings when I'm not giving the tour on my own project. I'd like to imagine I'll get enough pictures to fill a couple posts in the creations section. ;)

For those of you who haven't participated before, you'll usually be expected to have your own servers if you're displaying a large project, but I'll try to have multiple instances of the TX and BC servers up on halloween for people who might need it. You'll need to have it saved by an admin or submit it if you want it loaded that night, as personal loads will be disabled on those set up for display. If you need to use one of the servers for display, but plan on using a special map, please give notice ahead of time and try to find others who would prefer that over one of the defaults.

  • so i could use my own metallic server and the submit it here? because i dont have time to build online a lot and i am not sure if my server shows up through my new school's network.
  • Yeah, sure.
  • Well, I could probably make something up tonight, I have to re-download a security update for my computer, and its taking a heck of a long time.
  • Well, it's October now. I don't suppose much of anyone has built much yet, and we haven't worked on ours for a while either. :p

    I dunno, we could always put together a bit of a contest or something as incentive. Stick in a vote for buildings people like, maybe throw in a couple prizes. I guess I've got an extra copy of Half-Life 2 from orange box I could throw in.
  • lol i started a mansion on an island in construction isles v5. forgot i wasnt on quantium with autosave. lost everything >_<

    i will probably have some free time later this week because i get a fall break. ive been busy with classes lately.
  • Heheh, that does seem to happen sometimes.

    Though, there is a timed save funtion in the other construction mods, just enable it with...
    saveBuildingTimer(time in seconds,globalEcho[1/0],"FileName.cs",useMultipleFiles[1/0]);

    And after the first run you can start or stop it with:
    saveBuildingTimerOn();
    saveBuildingTimerOff();
  • I've got an extra copy of HL2 also. Kind of a lame prize because who doesn't have HL2? d:
  • I don't. <_<
  • I'm sure there are at least a few that would be interested in it, or they could give it to a friend. :p

    What else could we toss up? Some hosting and email addresses I suppose... Maybe a fancy message when they join the TC server if they want it.
  • Well, it's coming up next Wednesday, but most of us probably haven't gotten around to working on projects. Hopefully we'll have at least a few for people to drop in and check out.
    I know most people who play these days don't check the forums, and this thread went relatively unnoticed, but the prize offer still stands.
    If any of you random guys see this and want to contribute, put together a crew of a few guys and build something cool this weekend. Perhaps tell a few other guys ingame to jump on too.
  • You know, I might just do that tomorrow, since I have nothing to do that day :p
