recording video on tribes

I've been trying to record video on tribes 2 but when i use fraps i get a terrible frame rate & i can't find a converter for .rec files..

i'm just looking for a quick easy way to do this with quality in mind. anyone know of any better ways to do this?

  • Get a better video card?
  • i dont think it's my video card.. when i run fraps while using battlefield vietnam it's fine..
  • i found my ue's to be nonexsistant after removing xfire, anything that attaches into t2 in any sort of way is bound to be unstable, my best advice is to just run with the lag and edit it to smooth the framerate
  • but the lag is constant in the video.. just like in game.. 1fps.. and i haven't gotten any ue's.. it's just really laggy.. but it doesn't lag in other games that came out later than tribes.. even everquest2 is fine
  • You'll never find a converter for .rec files, it's a proprietary format used to record and playback simulations of network activity/input on the game. Pretty much just captures everything that you see in a server and replays it on your own.

When using fraps, you should have to set it to "Force lossless RGB capture" which effectively disables on-the-fly compression (and despite what it says, is not slower). You will need a fast enough video card, as it does create some overhead, but if you try at smaller resolutions an older card can handle it fine.
The video files will be a bit big (at least 1gb for 40 seconds if you do 1280x720@24fps or larger), but they'll look much better when you composition than if you have compression enabled in fraps.
  • damn. i tried that and it's still not working.. it just boggles my mind that only tribes is lagging with fraps and nothing else
  • Its fixed,
I remote connected to his computer: Removed a Trojan Virus, Updated his Video Card Driver's and gave him a reliable virus protection program. And a reliable spy ware program. All in all windows vista is bad... get windows xp or windows 7. Your firewall still would not let me update spy bot to scan and protect potential issues. Was able to get around the firewall for avast though. And set up a weekly virus scan and chatted with Iplop on dead's m s n...while remote connected on his computer ha ha ha ha... it was about 3am when all was said n done. He is able to record smoothly now. Because we gave him the FULL version of fraps as well. The issue was his V-Card Driver was out of date. He is using a 8 gig ram setup with 64 bit chip processor not emulating 32. V-Card is Hi Def 3200 ATI so its a screamer setup. But running "Pissta" with service pack 1 0__0 update that to latest bro ur firewall needs to allow updates..... But anyways he is making some cool stuff already. To say the least Dead seemed appreciative for the tips and hard work given. ANYTIME Brotha. ;). Krash kinda did the same for me when we setup *Ut back in the day. It took us some time then too... So yea just spreading the love.

    Was the above helpful?
  • xD hahahaha...
  • you could've just recorded a demo.. then used fraps to record the demo playback....
  • Not if there are more than 1,000 or so pieces.
