The Good Old Days
Remember the good old days when BlitzTorque, Krash, and SuperDoe used to build all together? And I would follow Blitz around and then be nuked over and over. And somethimes someone like Thyth or Naosyth would come over onto
Uber Con |U| server. Good times... I think I'm going to remake some of the buildings that Blitz and I made. Maybe Blitz will come back to The Construct someday...

Also, Sun Quan has returned to T2! I was on his server playing on XI. He has a "Relay" pack that is very similar to Thyth's logic pack, however it only routes to 1 freq.
He also has an amazing rock stage..
Shortly after he stopped playing that tribe seemed to go down the crapper =(
Going back even farther: when Renegades was the most popular mod in tribes 1. The arbitor and invincibility pack were fun. Also, there was something called "the Deathstar" which, you would have to surround in blast walls in order for it to deploy. When it did deploy, it would countdown until it launched into the air, where it would snipe the crap out of your enemy.
Sniping people out of their seats was fun, too. I still do that in version2 sometimes.
As for as construction goes, ummm...
I was bored of running people over on the Elite Warriors Online server, when, I headed over to a random construction server. Hearing rumors that Construction sucked from my mates, I decided to get a taste of it on my own (I think my friends had only heard of Quantium X, and, apparently, they weren't shown the glories of Construction).
It wasn't as flashy as I thought it was (the server was running Construction v0.70 unofficial), in fact, it was quite silent. The server owner sat afk in observer.
I remembered from a long time ago that "{buyfavs" was the buy favorites command, so I typed it in chat. To my surprise, it didn't work.
The server owner came back. An experienced builder named "ConDude."
We greeted each other with the usual "Hi." Then after struggling with the buyfavs command, he told me the what the original command was.
"You don't seem familiar," he said, "are you new to construction?"
I answered, "Yeah. My friends told me that construction sucked, so, I came here to check it out."
"I certainly don't think it sucks. I'm trying to build a lava patio. Care to come look?"
"Sure!"
By then, I had built a large, winding walkway almost across the map.
"Don't forget to merge."
"What?"
He came over to me. "Take out the weapon that looks like a sniper rifle."
I switched to the Merge Tool.
"Now, shoot at that walkway."
I shot. The walkway cloaked for a second.
"Woah. Is it supposed to do that?"
"Yes, now shoot at the other one."
I shot at the other one, and the two pieces disappeared, and, in their place, a new, bigger one appeared.
"Wow. That's cool."
"Yeah, I thought it was, too, when I first saw it come out."
He then lead me to his lava home, which was way out of bounds. It was a pretty simple building (as buildings sometimes are in the original construction) that comprised of a small tower with two platforms beneath it. He started deploying railing on the edges.
"How are you placing exact measurements like that?" I asked.
"You switch pack modes with an Light Support Beam," he answered.
"How do you do that?"
"Press your beacon key."
I build two LSBs on the ground, and connected them crudely with an LSB.
"That is so awesome!" I exclaimed.
He looked at his building, then back at me. "Want to go to another map so I can teach you how to build?"
"Sure."
We switched to Thin Ice, where he taught me how to build a simple house out of a medium floor (since the terrain was hilly) and some LSBs/pads. Also, he taught me about frequencies and switches.
After the house was done, he complimented, "You're a quick learner."
I was really excited over the new things I had just learned, and the wonders that still await me.
"Thank you," I replied.
This is an edited (I can't remember the exact quotes) version of my discovery of construction. There are a few parts that I missed (I deployed a REALLY large floor at one part and we both laughed, can't remember when, though), however, this is a pretty good outline.
Soon afterwards, I had a bad encounter with a The-Construct admin (before Krash had reset his admin lists) which really discouraged me from playing online construction (I still practiced offline, though, sharpening my skills). But, I eventually came back.
There's my story. Someone else post theirs.
I seriously played meltdown 2 exclusively for about 2 years and occasionally I would try to get onto a Miami or Huston Vehicles server to mess around and I accidentally stumbled onto a construction server. I don't know which map it was but it had a huge bridge going across the middle of it and everyone was building off of it. The admin must have also been messing around with tricon 2 stuff because I saw a lot of wierd stuff in it that I thought was in construction.
I didnt understand how to build at all so I made my little house out of lsb pads. (They were similar to the blastwalls in md2). I didn't come back to construction until a few months after that and I slowly became hooked.
I remember that I used to build Star Destroyer a year back. I included the green laser. Most people didn't like it though. Maybe I will build some type of craft from that series of movies soon. I am currently useing a virus scan, so I am not able to get on Tribes 2 at the moment.
This guy made this turret using proj turrets in Quantium X (that was the thing back then). When he was about to leave, I asked, "can i have the turet?". He let me have it.. soon after which I broke it
The first time I actually built was on this one server.. I forget the name. Anyways, he helped me build this huge floating base with entry FF's and such. It was awesome at the time
Good times...
You just started last week, I'll bet.
I've never really got to know BlitzTorque real much. I never really bothered to when he was around. Apparently, he's a person almost everyone loves (loved more than "the guy everyone loves!"
Rysterf is often a target for trickery. I hurried out after Dead_Thong said he was going to play tribes 2 while drinking (the night Rysterf thought he was banned). I used to fool a LOT of people back in the day (don't think I did Rysterf, though; Master-chief- and Dead_Thong seemed to have things going right).
Ah, the ol' "pressing alt+F4 will get you <insert gift here>!" will fool most underaged tribes 2 players. If they're too smart for that and they're being annoying, most scripters would hand the person an infinite loop, a recursive function, or else something that crashes you.
Trickery was often my thing, even when the trick was on me (*cough* -Linker-).
Gaining admin on small servers used to be a petty practice of mine. I would tell things people would think were "cool" or "Ub3r 1337," maybe even "fix up" their server. Being nice and not being a pest also helped that. I also never asked for admin, I just cleverly disguised a sentence which, if decoded, simply said "can I have admin," however, that often did not work because the current host could not decode it. It was simply just a game.
I don't do that anymore since tribes 2 is mostly dead. I simply just do the "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" thing instead of asking. Asking for admin degrades my pride unless it was temporary and I wanted it back because I left for a moment.
I hope he doesn't log onto the forums and reads this...
Is it?
