shepard went AWOL and decided to try and become a war hero, for some reason he thought that turning against the 141 task force was going to achieve that goal, once he had his hands on the intel supplied to him by roach and ghost (they were killed and the bodies burned, once they got the intel was handed to him in the form of some sort of... DNS..? idk =/ )
anywho, with this intel, shepard's blank check given to him by some dude, is then used to create a division called shadow company, a specialist unit that was originally designed to hunt down makarov, however, since captain pirce and captain "soap" mctavish survived shepards hired guns, shadow company was first told to hunt those two down, this eventually leads to shepard being knived in the eye by a half drowned, half wounded, and half concious "soap".
